From Screen to Stage

More than a decade has passed since the 2010 release, of writer-director Steven Antin’s crowd-pleasing musical sensation, Burlesque. Starring Christina Aguilera, Cher, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell and featuring incredible pop songs and dance routines it was only a matter of time before someone had the good sense to adapt this film into a stage show.

“To say that I’m excited is an understatement. ‘Peel me off the ceiling’ is more accurate. Getting Burlesque the Musical to the stage has been an ambition and a dream of mine for over 10 years.  I’m working with the best creative and producing team in the world, and we are all beyond thrilled that Christina has chosen to come on board as Executive Producer.  It’s a privilege to be working with her again. Her unrivaled experience, intuition and artistry continues to elevate everything. So exciting to be on this new journey with Xtina.”

Stalwarts from the film are joined by top-tier creatives from the world of theatre. Aguilera will serve as an executive producer on the stage production, and Antin is on board as the book writer and producer. The stage musical will include songs written for the film by Aguilera, Diane Warren, and Sia, with additional songs created by RuPaul’s Drag Race choreographer Todrick Hall and Jess Foley. Directed and choreographed by Nick Winston, with set design by Soutra Gilmour this promises to be a perfect adaptation for fans of the film.

The World premiere is announced for a sold out run at Manchester Opera House, playing 13 – 29 June. Extension dates have been added at Glasgow Theatre Royal from 11 – 28 September before returning to Manchester 3 October – 2 November, tickets are on sale now!
